Day 0 - Packing Checklists ... and a Big Smile

This is the day before we start our motorcycle adventure into a country with the most intriguing re-births after years of violence.  The rumors we have heard are that El Salvador renaissance is indeed real and impressive ... so, we decided to go and check it out first hand.

Our group includes Juan Godoy, who is based in Guatemala City and has been our on-the-ground coordinator and ears-to-the-ground team member,  Jason B. from Portland, OR, and Andy, Chuck W, Chuck G (what are the odds of having 2 Chucks : ) and me from Dallas.

Today, is packing day ... helmet, boots, gloves, gear, tools, maps, GPS, passport, chargers, SPOT tracker ... always fun.

As they say, you live a trip like this twice ... once when you plan it, once when you do it ... but this time it felt like 3 times.  I received a great paper map yesterday and discovered a few new places we must go see ... including a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Distances on this trip are not big and we expect mostly paved roads with your occasional gravel road here and there.  The purpose of the trip is more about immersing ourselves in the country itself, the culture, its beauty, and to understand its recent history a bit more.

We are all on the same flight tomorrow. Direct to Guatemala City. Wheels up on Sunday at 9am after a sumptuous breakfast at the Hyatt Centric in Guatemala City : )

All ready to zip it up!

The tentative route pending detours and add-on based on local tips
